Razorbacks - this Week
Well the hogs have a chance of "Winning" one this week. They play Mississippi State who is worse than the Hogs are. The optimist in me says - Next year and the next year are going to be good. I really do believe that Bobby Petrino is on the right track and is bringing glory back to the Hogs.
He is no rah - rah person - just a "get er done" person.

Faby's Mexican Restaurant - Conway
As a part of my blog about Arkansas I try to write a review on restaurants that we eat at. I forget to follow up on this as we eat at several local and others as we move around the state.
One of the restaurants that I consider a hidden diamond is Faby's. They call it Mexican and International cuisine but it is basically a Mexican Restaurant.
The thing about this place is that they actually give you too much food. For Example the wife and I ate their this evening she had an "enchilada al carbon" ala carte. I had the special which was "Taco Locos"
The wifes was a large enchilada with a roast type meat and good sauce over it.
Mine was two large flour tortillas rolled and stuffed with Beef, chicken and shrimp fajita meat along with peppers and onions. Seasoned to perfection. It also came with rice and beans along with guacomole on the plate and a small white cheese dip.
This was enough to fill up two people in itself. However, they also bring you the regular chips and hotsauce - their's is unique - and then they bring you out a small cup of the soup of the day. Sometimes bean, sometimes tortilla, sometimes green enchilada soup but always good soup.
Oh yes when you finish they bring out a small piece of the dessert of the day.
The only thing that could be better is if you chose the soup and dessert. However, it is what they have and is always good.
Almost forgot to mention that their home made tortillas are to die for!
We did all of this with drinks for less than $14.00 total.
A Bargain in itself. - Now excuse me while I stretch out in the recliner - Man I am full.

Arkansas Razorbacks - Basketball - Football?
Well Football is winding down only a few more games to go and the Hogs probably will not be bowl eligible at the end. Oh Well! There is always next year.
So what about Hog basketball? Only two players with SEC experience on the team and the first game is tonight. But they say the Pelphry has some really good talent. A new point guard that is supposed to be real good is now on the team. There is also a couple of great shooters and a big man.
Only time will tell. Go Hogs!

Autumn in Arkansas
If you want real evidence that Arkansas is a great place to live you simply would have had to take a drive down one of the roads that led you through the beautiful trees changing to fall colors in Arkansas. Sometimes it lasts only a brief time but it is beautiful.

Lost without my Nikon Binoculars
It was going to be a calm day, a typical day in which I was going to go look at a piece of real estate that I was to make a loan on. The land was in the northwest section of my territory. An area that most would say was in the "boonies". It was actually a great piece of hunting ground in the Ozarks of Arkansas.
I was to view the land at about noon - take about an hour and then move on to a loan closing that was in the southeast part of my territory. Needless to say, the shortcut method of getting from the "boonies" back to the civilized area for a loan closing seemed to be the best method. One in which it appeared it would be relatively easy to complete in the alloted time frame.
Well, to acomplish this task, I had along with me my trusty Garmin GPS and Nikon Monarch and Trailblazer Binoculars. I had told the GPS my route and expected nothing but perfection in traveling the backroads but if nothing else I could see forever with my great Nikon Binoculars.
I left the boonies at about 1:00 pm about 15 minutes later than I attended. I set in motion the GPS tracking. It began to lead me like a pro to my final destination.
Or was it?
Just a minute - let me take out my trusty Nikon All Terrain Binoculars (ATB) which by the way is a binocular line that has earned a reputation among serious hunters for precision optics, great ruggedness and incredible value.
Let me look and see what I can see with these great binoculars. Yes, I believe I am still on the right track because I can see so far in the distance with these great binoculars.
The paper map had indicated that I could have back traveled about 7 miles on the dirt road, taken a highway about 4 miles and then headed south on a fairly well traveled small highway for about 40 miles to my final destination.
But wait the trusty GPS indicated I could save a great deal of time by not back tracking but taking the dirt road only a few miles further down and soon hook up with a smaller highway that would eventually take me to my destination.

But I digress agian. The question is am I ever going to get there?
But wait! Up ahead! Through my Nikon Binoculars I see that there are 3 four wheelers with hunters beside the road. I will stop and ask them to get any local directions. That seems best thing to do. Besides it seems that my trusty GPS might need a little help.
Slowing to a stop, I yell sir how are you today? Fine I guess he yelled back. Especially since someone has come along. Can you tell me how to get back to the nearest town. We seem to be in the middle of nowhere and we are lost.
Well, my heat skipped a beat. This is really good. I stop to get directions and my direction givers are lost. Dont Panic - Look in the rearview mirror! There is a vehicle with someone in it that knows how to get everywhere!
It is a UPS truck. Not wanting to look lost myself, I excused myself and said, He can surely give you good directions. Have a nice day!
My plan, as my heart beats rapidly, is to drive just ahead of the UPS truck and if there comes a fork in the road tha I dont understand I will pull off and let him proceed on and then follow. He will get me back to the real world.
A few miles up the road - there it is the dreaded fork in the road. I pull over and act like I am getting something out of my eye. My GPS says turn left! The UPS truck goes by and turns to the right!
What I yelled - Decisions to be made! By Golly I paid good money for this GPS and I am going to trust it. Lets go left.
My heart beats faster as the road grows smaller and rougher. The only house for miles has an old man sitting on the front porch. Is that a banjo in his hand! Did I hear dueling banjos! Are they just waiting for me?
Wait - that makes no sense. There are no communities within miles of here but yet there is a grave yard with several newly dug graves. Keep driving dont stop or I might be the next one in the hole.
Look another house! Two young men are sitting on the tailgate of an old rundown ford truck. Oh my goodness! There eyes are too close together and they give me a great big grin as I go by.
But wait! Maybe all is ok. The GPS finally indicates the main highway is just ahead. It is about time. It has been about 45 minutes since I split with the UPS truck. It has been a loong 45 Minutes.
Yes! There is the highway I was looking for. I knew my GPS would get me there! But wait. What is that up ahead. Looks like a small country cafe with a UPS truck in front of it.
It is the same UPS truck I saw 45 minutes ago. Look the driver is coming out of the Cafe picking his teeth. How could that be. Wait a minute. That is the road coming out over there that the UPS driver took at the fork in the road. And look, I can see where the other road that I took 45 minutes ago forked off! Just about a quarter of a mile down the road.
Thank you trusty GPS! Maybe I should give you to the UPS driver so that he can find his way home!

Gus Malzahn - Razorbacks!
It is approaching the weekend and all of the talk is can the Tulsa team hang 55 on Arkansas as it has on average on its previous opponents. It is still a part of the soap opera where Gus was the offensive coordinator for Arkansas but left because he and Houston Nutt could not get along.
Gus is coming to town and has a great scoring offense. The hogs aren't that great but it is said that Tulsa has not played a caliber team yet.
Question is whether the Hogs are a caliber team or not.

Arkansas Razorbacks
Who does the Arkanasas Razorbacks play this week? The first question is does anybody care?
Well, they play the former Arkansas Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzahn. His Tulsa offense has been hanging an average of over 50 points on all opponents.

The United States and especially Arkansas is a great place to live. No where else could someone named Barack Hussein Obama be leading an election over a great American Prisoner of War.
How can this be. I am a Baby Boomer, 57 years old, a conservative Christian and one who believes in the American voting process. However, it appears that at this time my beliefs and total being is being threatened by the looming election of Barack Hussein Obama as President of the United States.
It appears that this person will bring on a Socialist attitude that will create an attitude in this country that will push us to the brink of disaster. Yes, the economy is not sound and times are tought now, but this is a piece of cake compared to where we might be if we turn this into the USSA.
Socialism is not the direction we need to go and I am encouraging Americans to go back to the beliefs of our forefathers and vote for truth, Justice and the American Way!(Sounds like Superman)

Americana - Cattle Sale
Great when within the confines of "the Job" I can go to the Cattle Auction and watch American at work. The cattle Auction is a sale but much more than just a sale.
Mom and Pop come to watch the calves sell once a year. The cattle buyer is there every week and has a "motion" conversation with the Auctioneer and the kid watches in awe as the "fast talk" continues and the cattle move through at a fast pace.
Americana at work but fleeting. Fewer every year and the one I attended today is probably to pass in the next two years to the progress of a shopping mall.

What You Gonna Be This Year?
Halloween Costumes and trick or treating is always fun and Hillbilly Willy might try something different to wear this year to scare the kids.Willy usually just puts on his everyday redneck, hillbilly clothes and the kids think the Willy is in costume. This year, however, willy is going to maybe try out a villain costume from one of the popular movies of the day. What would you think if Willy dresses up as the Joker from Batman.
Some people say the Willy is a Joker anyway and if that is the case Willy just as well dress up like one.
See the costume to the right. If Willy dresses up like that and goes around the neighborhood everyone will think Willy is a little strange. But wait a minute. Willy dresses up in his overalls and his old hat and boots and goes around the neighborhood and people thinks he is strange anyway.

Got Lemon - Get Lawyer
Have you ever had a lemon in a vehicle. The best way to make lemonade out of that is to know about the Lemon Laws by state. The best way then is to move forward by getting answers to your Lemon Law questions.
I had a lemon of a car once. Took transmission back to the shop three times they could find nothing wrong to fix the problem. Well, the transmission went out three weeks out of warranty.

Arkansas is a great place to live but I am a Texan by birth and still one in my heart. This is why many times I find myself browsing the internet searching for that place that I might like to live back in Texas.
Well, in cruising through homecity.com I found information that really interested me. The information was about finding that perfect home in or around Austin Texas. Yes, I was looking at
Austin Real Estate and trying to find that perfect place to live.
Well, I also looked close to a place where a good friend lives and that lead me to look at Round rock tx homes for sale. Yes, what I like about this site is that it gives you much information, lots of options, lots of locations and lots of choices. When searching the site for that perfect home you will likely find information that lets you know if the place is going to be right for you. You will find out if there are things there that you like to do and if the weather and climate suit your needs.

Redneck, Hillbilly or Ozark American
As an ethnic group of the Arkansas Persuasion- it was brought to my attention today in an article by Paul Greenberg that every ethnic group deserves a politically correct name.
The decision needs to be made as soon as possible whether people living in the Ozarks of Arkansas and Missouri should be called Redneck, Hillbilly or the politically correct name of Ozark American.
Also, if we get the name lined out right and get a politically correct nomenclature, it would be the next step to ask for some type of rights and some type of compensation from the government.
This way Willy would be important and get Government bailouts!
What are your thoughts?

Willy is Happy!
Thank goodness it is Friday. We need to reverse this thing and work four days and off 3. I would gladly give 4 10 hr days to get the job done and take a long weekend.
Oh yea! That is what my Dr. and Dentist do. Have you tried to get a dentist appointment on Friday afternoon. No way. Friday morning they say they are open and it is one receptionist.
Where do you go to school for a dental hygienist.
Sounds like my kind of job. Hate to have my hands in others mouths but for Friday off I might try it.

Arkansas State Red Wolves beat Texas A & M Aggies
What was it that did the trick. Was it changing the name to the Red Wolves. I don't know but the Red wolves of ASU (Arkansas State University) ended up beating the Aggies of Texas A & M University. (A&M).
Sounds like ASU has a good team this year. Maybe with the change in administration at the University of Arkansas there might be a reconsideration of playing in state rivals.
This would draw a crowd - keep money in state and give talk radio something else to talk about.

Recent Restaurant visits
Most recent new eating places that we have visited in Arkansas are:
La Mariachi - Conway - Mexican food - much like the many others in town. Some of the people from others were there so must be a connection - Fair but slow and mundane - many others much better - Will not return - expect it to die a slow death. -- 2 stars out of 10.
El Botanos - Conway - Mexican Food - buffet - more real traditional Mexican (old Mexico) surprisingly, although most people don't realize this, that type of food is fairly bland. - pulled pork, guacomole, three chicken dishes - fairly good - too expensive for what you get . Ok - but want frequent often - prefer Tex-Mex - 4 stars out of Ten.

Rumor's are that ESPN Game Day is coming to campus this fall and they are going to set up in front of City Jail instead of the campus. Expect to see more Razorbacks there than at the field.

Arkansas a good and Hot Place to live
Just came back from a family trip for reunion to Texas Panhandle. I used to live in Texas and think that it was hot. Well it is hot but not miserable.
While there in the late afternoon and evening we could sit in the shade with the 20 mile an hour wind blowing and be comfortable even if it was in the 90's. Drove back to Arkansas and attempted to sit on the back porch in the late afternoon in the shade. The temperature was about 93 and the humidity was about 75%.
Sweat was dripping in about five minutes and it was miserable.
Arkansas is a good place to live but 92 hurts worse here than it does in Texas Panhandle

Strange Post
That last post that I did came out a little strange. I was simply trying to indicate that the heat was something similar to putting your head in the oven.
When I went looking for a picture to illustrate this, the picture of the head in the oven came out. The problem is that to me it looks a little like Eisenhower.

Rain - Rain
It is July in Arkansas and the rain continues to come. It usually has tapered off considerably by now. We had about 2 inches again today. That is ok until the sun comes out and then with high humidity and high temperature it is like sticking your head in a steam oven.
Can get to be just a little to hot for comfort.

What the Cell Phone Sees 6/07/08
Sometimes what the cell phone sees is a little surprising. This is what is seen on my front lawn. Neighbor in a hurry took out the mailbox. The cell phone decided to take this picture after the mailbox stand was back upright. However, the actual mailbox weighed more than this redneck could lift.
Therefore it is staying on the ground until the repairman comes.
Hope we have a short mailman.

We all need to be on our knees.

Call upon His name, then stand back and watch His wonders to behold.
This Scripture gives us, as Christians, ownership of this land and the ability to call upon God to heal it.
I challenge you to do so.
We have never been more desperate than now for God to heal our land.
This election is the scariest I remember in my lifetime.

If my people, which are called by My name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
During WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England , its people and peace.
This had an amazing effect as bombing stopped.
There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America .
The United States of America and our citizens need prayer more than ever !!!
If you would like to participate: each evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (8:00 PM Central, 7:00 PM Mountain, 6:00 PM Pacific), stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, for peace in the world, the upcoming elect ion, that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws governing our land and that Christianity will grow in the US.
Someone said if people really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless.

25th Annual Pops on the River

Gates open at 5:30pm and music starts at 6:30pm. Fireworks start at 9:30pm.
Pops on the River, presented by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, is Arkansas' largest Fourth of July celebration and will take place at Little Rock's Riverfront Amphitheatre. The evening includes music from Happenstance and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and will end with a fantastic fireworks show.
Other activities include a dunking booth with Arkansas Democrat-Gazette editorial writers such as Wally Hall and Jennifer Christman, caricatures by John Deering, Jay Grelen's Southern Sweet Tea Sipoff, Irene Wassel's Apple Pie Contest, face painting and a marketplace full of vendors.
The event is free to the public. A donation of a non-perishable food item is requested for the Arkansas Food Bank Network.

Kick back - Enjoy Important things of Life
Hope everyone has a happy 4th of July. Just a reminder to be safe, be happy and take care of the things that matter in your life. Spend time with your family and friends and kick back and enjoy the holiday and the freedom that we have. With this in mind please reflect on the following and old but good reflection on life!

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'
The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---God, your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.
The sand is everything else---the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18.
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.'
The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.'
