Farmers Market - Conway

Nothing like a good festive atmosphere and good produce, canned goods and homemade articles at the Conway Farmers Market.

I was able to make it there this morning and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and quantity of the goods that were available.  Everything from Squash to Kale.  It all looked good.  The vendors were upbeat and enjoying what they do.  I also met a couple of young ladies from Horseshoe Mountain in Greenbrier.  One was thirteen and said that her birthday was next week.  She was a joy to talk to.

There was also an entertainer who was providing music.  Great time.

Go enjoy.

Pink Skies Over the Neighborhood

Out messing with my camera because there was nothing else to do.  I told my wife that we were going to have to move to the country so I could have a better Palette for my pictures.

However, when I brought the pictures back to the computer the one below at least had some redeeming value.

Spring

Where oh where has the cool spring gone.  The heat is horrible here in Arkansas.  Willy wishes he were up on the Buffalo River and in a canoe.  Might not be cooler but it would be funner.

If you have never been on the Buffalo - it is the only River in the United States that is a National Park. Check it out online and then come to Arkansas and check it out!

Life today

I guess life is good right where I am at But it really doesn't seem to be the what I expect from life. I have dreams of havin something like a boat And down the river I should float. But here I stand in the garden deluxe Watching it grow you wouldn't say sucks I guess I should be thankful And not b a jerk. Anything at home or play surely beats work

What a great day it would to be on the river.  Regardless of the generation and the height of the river it would be great to be there.

Why Fox Is My Favorite Sports Network

Contributed by Vickie Tyson

I enjoy watching a lot of pro football, particularly NFC games. Fox covers the NFC and does an excellent job of it. The pregame show that features James Brown, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, and Jimmy Johnson is my favorite one to watch. When I turn on my satellite TV from www.tvbydirect.com/ on Sunday morning, I find that they always give the best analysis.

As far as game commentary goes, I don't think there is a better duo out there than Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Joe is a seasoned announcer with a smooth voice and a good eye, and Troy's experience as a Super Bowl-winning quarterback allows him to give insights that lesser players may not understand.

Fox also has top-notch post-game coverage that always keeps me up to date on everything else happening in the games I didn't watch. I find Howie Long to be especially an especially lucid and thoughtful commentator, providing a in-depth look at things from the perspective of an honest (and very talented) former player.

For the best in NFL coverage, I always choose Fox, and hey, how can you go wrong with a station that has a performing robot animation (Cletus) on the sides of the screen?

SMALL TOWNS

Those who grew up in small towns will laugh when they read this.

Those who didn't will be in disbelief and won't understand how true it is.

1) You can name everyone you graduated with.

2) You know what 4-H means.

3) You went to parties at a pasture, barn, gravel pit, or in the middle of a dirt road. On Monday
you could always tell who was at the party because of the scratches on their legs from running through the woods when the party was busted. (See #6.)

4) You used to'drag'Main .

5) You whispered the 'F' word and your parents knew within the hour.

Over the next few weeks I am going to highlight many of the festivals and fairs around Arkansas.  These will lead a person around the state and let them know the fun and the beauty of this state.  Many of these are on the list that I would like to visit.

Cheering on my team with my friends

Guest post written by Dawn Grant

I've made several friends over the years just from finding out that they're really big college basketball fans too. Somehow I figure out whether they are or not when I first meet them. It always comes out. I haven't really seen that many of my friends since the holidays though just because our schedules have been so busy. So I'm looking forward to this party even more.

I decided to try and find some good recipes to serve for the party because I want it to be extra special and have something else besides just chips and dip like at most of these types of parties. I want my gues! ts to enjoy both the game and the food. While I was looking up some recipes online, I found some information about enery packages and decided to sign up for one of them for our home energy service.

I've already planned to make some pulled pork BBQ sandwiches for my NCAA tournament watch party, along with some of my special homemade onion rings.

Legend of Kung Fu Package Deal

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Hiltons of Branson for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Everyone is Kung Fu Overnightin’- Huh! Come stay at the Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing and the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel and see Legends of Kung Fu Show. Wow!  I live three hours from Branson and who would have thought that I would have been writing about Kung Fu Package Deal.  Yes, the reason I write about this is the fact that it is happening at one of my favorite places, Branson, and at one of my favorite places to stay there which is Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing.  Yes, my family thinks that this is a great place to stay in Branson.

Staying at the  Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing while in Branson is a treat.  It is even a greater treat to be able to stay there while enjoying the great things to do at Branson such as the shows and the great attractions at Branson.  Some of the things that we are thinking about trying out this year are things that will appeal to me and the wife such as  the 70’s Supershow feat with The Village People and Lynard Skynyrd and ZZ Top Concert.  How much fun will that be for us old folks.  However, to even it out for the younger generation we will probably throw in something like Silver Dollar City Blue Grass & BBQ and something they always enjoy which is White Water which opens July 1 this year.

So, fun for the oldies and fun for the younger ones and a Kung Fu Show also.  How can any of this be wrong in Branson.

Something for everyone is what Branson has.  Check it out.

Steak from the Street

I like good steak.  I cook steak on the grill often.  I cook all the way from a flat iron cheap steak to a porterhouse steak.  There is not a steak that I won't cook.

I cook them simple with just seasoning and charcoal or if I am in a hurry I cook them over gas grill.  I sometimes marinade them but mostly not.  How do you cook your steak?

What I want to know is whether or not the street vendor that came down the street almost peddling steaks like an ice cream truck has good steaks or whether they are junk steaks.  I package of good steaks was supposed to be $25.   My fear is the quality.  Sounds like a great price.

Anyone out there ever bought from one of these guys?

WHY GOD MADE MOMS

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1.  She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2.  Mostly to clean the house.
3.  To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?

1.  He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2.  Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3.  God made my mom just the same like he made me.  He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?

1.  God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2.  They had to get their start from men's bones.  Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?

1.  We're related.
2.  God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mom like me.

What kind of a little girl was your mom?

1.  My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2.  I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3.  They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?

1.  His last name.
2.  She had to know his background.  Like is he a crook?  Does he get drunk on beer?
3.  Does he make at least $800 a year?  Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?

1.  My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world.  And my mom eats a lot
2.  She got too old to do anything else with him.
3.  My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?

1.  Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2.  Mom.  You can tell by room inspection.  She sees the stuff under the bed.
3.  I guess mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms and dads?

1.  Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2.  Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3.  Dads are taller and stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friends.
4.  Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine..

What does your mom do in her spare time?

1.  Mothers don't do spare time.
2.  To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?

1.  On the inside she's already perfect.  Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2.  Diet.  You know, her hair.  I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?

1.  She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean.  I'd get rid of that.
2.  I'd make my mom smarter.  Then she would know it was my sister who did it not me.
3.  I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Easter

After the past few weeks with  wife going through some serious illness and just now beginning to get any strength back makes me appreciate Easter More.

Without Christ loving me to die for me I would not have the opportunity to have such a wonderful wife who loves me and loves the Lord.   I realize my love for her even more when I see the possibility that she could be taken from me so easily.

This gives me a greater love for the God who has given me such a precious lady to love and who loves me.

Thanks Lord for giving your life for me.

ER/Hospital

I Spent the last two weeks in the hospital but not as a patient. Started with Mother in law in for surgery and before she got out my wife got deathly ill and spent a week in the hospital.

Observations:
  1. Not a place to get rest - someone in every two hours.  Why dont they put all together and do it once.
  2. Chair in the room is tough to sleep in
  3. Not a good place for great air conditioner.
  4. Some nurses are rude but most are real nice.
Just my thoughts for now.

Mike Anderson

Mike Anderson has come on board as the new coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks.  Mike Anderson's opening press conference was like a religious revival.  Mike Anderson says if he is wrestling a bear, that you better come help the bear.  Mike Anderson says that if he is playing checkers with his grandmother, look out Grandma, I am playing to win.

Mike Anderson is saying all of the right things.  It will be several months to see if he can deliver.

Go Hogs.

Rumors Fly on Coaching Search

Depends on who you listen to as to what you think.

The folks at HawgsSports.com — the Rivals site for Arkansas — are now reporting the following:

UA will have a basketball coach in the next 48 hours.  I now think it will be Mike Anderson.  This has been a two horse race with Buzz (Williams) and Mike and I now think there will be a press conference either Wednesday or Thursday presenting the new basketball coach, and I think it is Mike.

That from Otis Kirk of the HawgSports site.

I believe that Agent Jimmy Sexton is playing the rumor game to get his client more money.

That is the bottom line.
