Wish I Was Fishing - Little Red River

Surfing for something to do in the next few weeks and it brings to mind the couple of times I have had the opportunity to fish on the Little Red River.

Saw this picture and couldn't help but wish that it were me. Maybe I can do a little more of this in retirement.

A little more about the River:

Little Red River, emerging icy cold from beneath massive dam at Greers Ferry Lake is a premier-class trout stream. Trout were introduced to the Little Red in 1966, some three years after the completion of the lake project. Rainbows, browns and cutthroats are caught for some 35-river miles below the dam. Howard "Rip" Collins caught a 40-pound, four-ounce world record brown on the river in 1992...a mark that still stands. Full service marinas and resorts are available along the upper sections of the Little Red. Both public and resort launch areas are conveniently located on both sides of the river. Attractions in the area include the William Carl Garner/Corps of Engineers Visitor Center, hiking trails overlooking the river, trout hatchery; plus boating, fishing, and resort villages around the lake.

Paintball

Man, I wish I was young again. Some of the things that younger people are doing these days. Also what a great state to live in Arkansas the Natural State.
Outdoors, young and paintball. Sounds like great fun!
Started daydreaming recently, and my mind went back to my younger adult days. As a Church group we would take the kids to participate in Paintball and I could never resist being involved. But I never invested in the right paintball gear. This got me to thinking about it and as usual I found myself surfing the internet looking for the ultimate paintball gear.

I found the site that offers great paintball gear This place says that it is the Ultimate Paintball Company, and after surfing around on their site I tend to believe it. It has some of the premier paintball gear. They Sell Tippmann, Spyder, Smart Parts, Dye, Draxxus paintball gear plus many more brands which you can find on their website.

Their top selling guns are claimed to be Tippmann A-5, Tippmann 98 Custom, Smart Parts Ion, Spyder Pilot ACS. What more could you ask for.

As long as I am Daydreaming - How about one of these Babies!
You can see this gun and all of their different products they carry at http://www.pntball.com

And whats more Ultimate Paintball offers the best prices with free shipping.

This way you can order any of their paintball guns, paintball markers, paintball gear, or anything else that they have to offer and get it shipped to you just for the price of the product.

What the heck. I am only as young as I think. I believe Arkansas and the great outdoors are calling me to come out of my daydream and get back on the playing field.

Paintball - Here I come again.

But this time I am going to get a little more protective gear like....
Premium Black/Woodland Camo Paintball Tactical Vest
The old Body might Take it a little Better.

El Mexicana Restaurant -Conway

If you want a nice quiet place to eat Mexican Food in Conway, this could be the place. It is interesting that it is in an OK location but not great, but seems to have very few customers.

I would rate the food as OK but not great. It is a quick and easy place to get a simple mexican food fix for real TEX - MEX etc.. In other words it is not fast Mexican like Taco Bell.

When going here we usually get entrees. The meal is cheap and usually rather fast. The meals this time consisted of:

Taco Salad with ground beef and guacomole dip on it - no sour cream. - Rated OK - not to greasy and guacomole dip is always good.

Chimachanga dinner - beef - the special on the board - Rice and beans and a dip of Guacomole. -Again rated ok- nothing to knock your socks off but very adequate for a good meal - Suprise at the end that I did not notice on the board was that it came with free apple cobbler. The cobbler was a quick cook cobbler that was probably good at noon when it was cooked. It did satisify the sweet tooth.

The on difference on this place is that they bring with the Chips and regular salsa a green Salsa that is a little different. It is really good. They used to bring out a small bowl of beans that were cooked "Mexican style" that was really good, but a change of cooks has caused this to quit.

Overall on scale of 1-10, this place is about a 5. Good for quick and Mexican but not where you go to impress anyone.

Where the Big Guns Roam!

Just returned from a Company Conference all about being the best we can be, being a team player and doing the right thing. What else is new in the world.

However, the best thing about the conference was the location. It was held at a facility now owned by Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas. The Conference center is called Lake Point Conference Center. The Center had large conference and dining hall, two large lodging complexes that were very nice and was built around the Lake Dardanelle.

The thing that I found interesting was that this was previously owned by Tyson company. It was the Tyson Executive Training Center. History has it that the Tyson family used this as a retreat for themselves and their friends. It was stated that the dining hall was often used for meetings with people of fame such as Bill and Hillary Clinton.

It was at that time that, as much as I find history interesting and like to hear stories about the Big Guns of politics, I decided it was time to change the subject. One of the fellow workers, obviously a democrat, wouldn't let it go and went as far to tell how he had eaten there at one time with the Tysons and heard them tell stories of the clintons.

It was all I could stand and I had to speak up and let them know that I was not impressed and to let them know my disdain with the Clintons and their whole debacle. Not very professional of me, but very satisfying.

This might have been where my fellow worker thought the big guns had roamed, but as far as I was concerned, the pistole was without a bullet.

I went to bed in the facilities that night with fears that I might be sleeping where Bill slept with Hillary or maybe someone else.

Sorry! Shouldn't go there!

I Don't Understand Why!

Why oh why does it happen this way.
God I try to do as you say.
But things turn out wrong everyday.
I'm not sure why we keep on - Anyway!

Martina McBride says it Better - Read the words!

Anyway

Martina McBride/Brad Warren/Brett Warren (BMI)

You can spend your whole life buildin'Somethin' from nothin'
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway
You can chase a dreamThat seems so out of reach
And you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway

(Chorus)God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

This world's gone crazy and it's hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
And in a moment they can choose to walk away
Love 'em Anyway

(Chorus)God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

(Chorus)God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

You can pour your soul out singin'A song you believe in
That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Yeah sing it anyway ---I sing ---I dream---I love anyway

Close to Home

We never understand why, or how something like the V. T. incident can happen. There are all kinds of theories, speculations, and especially arm chair hindsight. But what we do know that there are great feelings of pain and despair by many families and friends of the victims of yesterdays shootings.

It really never seeks in however, until you receive the notice that it is hurting someone close to home. It is easy to sit by the T.V. and believe that you hurt for those that are suffering, but when you get notice that someone you know has kin that were victims of the shooting, it seems to sink in a little more.

This is the feeling that we experience as we find the one of the victims is the cousin of someone in my Sunday School Class. It still does not create the ache that it would if it were you own son or daughter, but it does bring it close to home.

We must always pray for and remember these people. It also brings back the memories to me of 9-11. How quickly we began to forget the hurt that we shared as a nation. How quickly we turn to being critical of the war and the President who has such a big burden of decisions on his shoulders.

What can we do?

Remember and Pray!

New Pledge of Allegiance!

New Pledge of Allegiance!

Since the Pledge of Allegiance

and

The Lord's Prayer

are not allowed in most

public schools anymore

Because the word "God" is mentioned....

A kid in Arizona wrote the attached

NEW School prayer.

I liked it.

Now I sit me down in school

Where praying is against the Rule

For this great nation under God

Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,

It violates the Bill of Rights.

And anytime my head I bow

Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,

That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.

The law is specific, the law is precise.

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall

Might offend someone with no faith at all.

In silence alone we must meditate,

God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,

And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.

To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,

And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.

It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,

We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

!

It's scary here I must confess,

When chaos reigns the school's a mess.

So, Lord, this silent plea I make:

When I die; My soul please take!

Amen

Lord Please Bless the Students and Families of Virginia Tech ."

WingStop - Conway

Another in my Restaurant Reviews - Conway.

This is a no frills, Wing Place. There used to be another wing place in Conway and it lasted a short time. Tried to offer everything else and did none of it well.

This place is a franchise. It does Wings and a few sides such as cole slaw and fries. We stop there often for a quick meal.

The usual Order - 10 wing Combo - 1/2 BBQ & 1/2 Hawaiaan. This comes with the home cut fries. Both flavors are great. If you want a little spice try the Cajun, the Atomic or the Original Hot

Their Spokesperson is Troy Aikman!

Imus and Sharpton debating race? Good grief!

It's a sad day when the national discussion on race is marked by aging shock jock Don Imus making a fool of himself and choosing Al Sharpton as his confessor.

On the bright side, columnist Adrienne Washington expresses her frustration with Imus then calls on her community to stop glorifying the same denigrating language and black scholar T. Vaughn Walker reminds us that the simple principles of loving God and loving your neighbor are still the keys to racial reconciliation

Mike's Place - Conway

Had the privelege of eating at Mike's recently. Three of us eating with three different meals.
  • Salmon with lemon mustard drizzle and baked potato. - Excellent on the light portion. Salmon was a thinner cut and superbly cooked. Baked potato needed just a little more time in the oven but still very good.

  • Coconut Shrimp - Excellent dish with a pineapple sauce. Not greasy - as good as you can do this meal. Very much enjoyed. Ordered on the regular portion and more than one person can eat. Side of baked potato

  • Pan Seared Grouper on the lite plate - excellent - cooked very good - excellent dish - side baked potato.

Finished off with a Creme Boulette - shared by all - a small dish but very good.

Some might consider this expensive, however, the three meals, tea for drink and one dessert came to less than $60 with a generous tip.

We always enjoy Mikes Place!
